As the Head of the Research Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture, I organise the center’s research activities, lead the innovation and advisory work, and manage national and international fisheries and aquaculture programmes. I coordinate the cooperation between the center and the different stakeholders in the aquaculture sector and the scientific policy-making work of the sector. As a leading member of several national and European professional organisations, I am actively involved in the scientific support of European aquaculture policies and in the advocacy work of aquaculture, especially freshwater aquaculture. In the field of international cooperation, in addition to activities for the development of aquaculture in Europe, the organisation of aquaculture programmes and the development of scientific cooperation, mainly in South-East Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, are a priority. For more than 20 years, I have been carrying out ecological research to understand the fish communities in Hungarian natural waters. Another of my main research interests is the development of sustainable pond fish production and the role of fish ponds in maintaining the natural values. In addition to my research activities, I am involved in national and international projects as an expert and lead researcher in hydrobiological, fish farming and conservation RDI projects. As a lecturer, I have been involved in various university courses in the field of hydrobiology and aquaculture for many years.
