Gyöngyvér Fazekas has been working as a biologist in the Reasearch Centre of Fisheries an Aquaculture (HAKI) since 2013.
In the framework of a “Young Researcher Program” supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, she conducted research in the field of fish immunology using real time PCR techniques. As the member of the genetic group, she has been focusing mainly on native endangered sturgeon species (sterlet, Russian sturgeon) since 2015. She began the PhD studies at the Doctoral School of Animal Husbandry and Science of SZIE in 2015. During the Ph.D. study she is investigating the genetic variability and structure of the Hungarian wild sterlet population, and the broodstock of the HAKI gene bank, using microsatellite markers. Besides that, she took part In the Russian sturgeon and paddlefish hybrid examination, confirming the successful hybridisation between the two species with microsatellite marker technique. She regularly participates on the artificial propagation of the common carp strains of the live gene bank, and of the other economically important species (catfish, sturgeon species). She contributed in the development of conservation plan of the crucian carp (Carassius carassius) and the sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus).
