In four years, MATE has improved 150 places in QS’s world ranking
Gödöllő, 12 March 2025 - The Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE) has improved its position by 150 places in the last four years, according to the newly published ranking of Quacquarelly Symonds (QS), making a significant improvement in the ranking of Agriculture and Forestry (AF) disciplines.

Dr. Csaba Gyuricza, Rector of MATE, emphasized that "since its establishment in 2021, the University has paid special attention to the promotion and support of domestic and international cooperation. Our efforts in these areas strengthen our reputation both within and outside the academy, and are increasingly reflected in our international indicators."
All this is in line with the objectives of the MATE 2030 strategy, which aims to bridge the gap between the international scientific elite and Hungarian farmers and industry, in order to bring cutting-edge knowledge to every corner of the country and open new horizons for rural development.
In the QS discipline ranking, MATE improved 50-50 places in 2021, 2022 and 2023, maintained its ranking in 2024 and improved 50 places again this year, despite the fact that the number of universities ranked continued to increase (see Table 1). This year's results put MATE in the top 10% of the universities applying for the ranking.
"We should see the improvement of our position in the various international rankings as a tool to lead by example and good practice. By keeping these in mind and adapting them to our University, we will launch continuous improvements and targeted support programmes in education, research and third mission activities, and we can also make continuous progress in sustainability development goals", Dr Csaba Gyuricza stressed in relation to the results.
