My main research field is related to the intensive pond fish farming of European catfish. I studied the effects of different rearing systems (IPRS = in-pond raceway system; cages) and technologies (monoculture, polyculture) on the production traits of European catfish and on the rearing environment (chemical composition of water and sediment). I also investigated the possibilities of fish meal replacement with plant and animal originated alternative proteins in European catfish feeds. In future projects I aim at the determination of the nutrient requirements - with special regard to the protein content of the diet – and the optimal stocking density for European catfish in different life stages.
