My principal area of research is the reproductive biology of fish, isolation, cryopreservation, transplantation and culture of germline stem cells as well as gametes of fish. During my doctoral studies I have developed several methods for the isolation and cryopreservation (including freezing and vitrification) of spermatogonia and oogonial stem cells in salmonids, cyprinids and eel. Successful intra- and interspecific transplantation of germline stem cells was performed in samonids and cyprinids which in the long run allows the preservation of their genetic resources through surrogate production of gametes by the recipients. More recently, my interests have turned to the culture of germline stem cells as well as in vitro gametogenesis. In addition, I am trained in various histology techniques as well as molecular biology methods.
